SUNNAH IS A FINAL JUDGMENT AND EVIDENCE
- “Whatever the Prophet has given you, take it, and whatever he has forbidden you, avoid it.” Since the expression “whatever he has forbidden you” is understood as a prohibition indicating something forbidden, the expression “whatever he has given you” also understands his orders.
- There are many verses in the Quran that state that obedience to the Prophet and following him is obligatory. “We sent every prophet with the permission of Allah that he should be obeyed” (-Nisa-64). Here, obedience to the prophet is shown as the purpose of prophethood. Therefore, the words and actions of our master (pbuh) will necessarily be evidence.
- “Say, ‘If you love Allah, then follow me, so that Allah will love you.’” (Ali Imran -31) This verse is a clear proof that all the Sunnahs of the Messenger of Allah (pbuh), his words, actions, agreements and ijtihads are extremely decisive proofs. Accordingly, whoever follows the Sunnah of the Prophet (pbuh) will reach the highest rank. Because the only way to gain Allah’s consent and love is to follow our master.
- “Perform prayer, pay zakat, and obey Allah and His Messenger” (mucadele -13) “Perform prayer, pay zakat, and obey the Messenger, that you may be shown mercy” (nur- 56) In both verses, obedience to the Prophet is included as a ruling at the level of prayer and zakat. Just as prayer and zakat are obligatory, obedience to the Prophet is also obligatory.
- “Say, ‘This is my way. I call to Allah. I and those who follow me are on a bright path (insight).” (Yusuf-108) The following can be understood from this verse.
a- What I have brought is my path and the path of those who follow me.
b- I and those who follow me invite to Allah.
c- I and those who follow me are on a bright path. Accordingly, the Sunnah is a clear proof. Otherwise, those who do not follow it have no right or authority to invite others to the truth.
- “Those who follow the Ummî Messenger. He is the Prophet whom they find written in the Torah and the Gospel. He commands them to do good and forbids them from doing evil. He makes lawful for them the good and pure things, and forbids them the dirty and harmful things, and removes the burdens and the ties on their backs (i.e., the heavy burdens of killing a person by mistake, the cutting off of limbs that commit sins, and clothes that have been touched by dirt). Those who believe in that Messenger, show him respect, help him, and follow the Light that was sent with him, they are the ones who will be successful.” (Araf-157) The verse mentions the things he made lawful and unlawful. If this is not his Sunnah, what is it? Because he said, “Know that I have been given a Book like the Book” (Abu Dawud).
- “Say: Obey Allah and His Messenger. If they turn away, then know that Allah does not love the disbelievers” (Ali Imran-30). Allah declares that opposing him is kufr. This makes me tremble. Which sane person can say that the Sunnah is not evidence and source after this? Claiming the opposite of this can only be explained by bad luck and rudeness.
- "When Allah and His Messenger have decided on a matter, it is not for a believing man or woman to choose to do it according to their own wishes. Whoever opposes Allah and His Messenger has fallen into clear error." (ahzap-36) Despite this, what kind of intelligence is the product of ignoring the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah!!!???
- “Some people say, ‘We believe in Allah and the Messenger and we obey,’ but after that a group of them turn away. But when they are called to Allah and the Messenger to judge between them, behold, a group of them turn away.” (An-Nur- 47/48 The verses regard turning away from the Prophet’s rulings and commands as hypocrisy.
- “Say: Obey Allah and obey the messengers. If you turn away, then know that the Messenger’s responsibility is to convey the message, and your responsibility is to fulfill the duty imposed on you. If you obey the Messenger, you will be on the right path. The Messenger’s duty is only to convey the message clearly.” (Nur-54) Is he still rejecting the Sunnahs of the Messenger of Allah? What is obedience to him, if not the whole of his Sunnah, his words and acknowledgments? The honorable companions took all the commands and prohibitions from him. “Perform the prayer as I do” (Bukhari) “Take the rites of Hajj from me” (Muslim)
- “O you who believe! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you (!). If you differ in a matter, refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if you truly believe in Allah and the Hereafter. That is better and more beneficial in outcome.” (Nisa-59) Yes, our Lord Himself guides us to the Sunnahs of His Messenger (pbuh). What more can we say? Do those who say that the Quran is sufficient for us not read the Quran at all? I asked a friend during an online discussion (he was rejecting the Sunnah). Allah says to perform prayer. He does not reveal its essence. When I asked him how we should perform prayer, he said, “You will understand it from the spirit of the verse.” When I asked him how, he threw me out of Islam. The verses we have written so far declare that the Sunnah is a definitive proof. Let’s continue with the verses:
- “Perform prayer and pay zakat.” (Baqarah: 43) The number of prayers, their rakats, times and quality are not specified here. These are only stated in the pure and honorable sunnah of our Prophet.
- “Cut off the hands of those who steal, male or female, as a punishment for what they have done and as an example to others than Allah” (Maidah-38) What are the rulings regarding theft? What is meant by hands and where should they be cut off? All of this is stated in the Sunnah.
- “Flog each of the men and women who commit adultery with a hundred lashes” (Nur-2) Who is this ruling for? To whom does it apply? A hundred lashes for the unmarried, a hundred lashes for the married, and stoning are stated in the Sunnah.
- “And bring four witnesses to bear witness against those of your women who commit prostitution. If they testify, imprison them in their houses until they die or Allah makes a way for them” (Nisa-15). The Messenger of Allah (saw) while interpreting this verse said, “Take from me, take from me, take from me. If a single person commits it with a single person, a hundred lashes and exile; if a married person commits it with a married person, a hundred lashes and stoning.” (Ibn Hanbal, Musnad, Muslim, Tirmidhi, Nasai, Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah) The limits of this limit have also been explained in the Sunnah of the Prophet.
- He said, “When you descend from Arafat, remember Allah at Mash'ar Haram” (Baqarah-198). Here, Arafat is not mentioned as an essential of Hajj, but only as a place. Therefore, staying in Arafat, which is the greatest pillar of Hajj, is determined by the Sunnah. Our Prophet (pbuh) said, “Hajj is Arafat” (Abu Dawud, Manasik, 69).
- “We have sent down this book to you only so that you may make clear to the people about what they differ about, and as a guidance and mercy to the people who believe” (Nahl-64). Allah commands the people to explain to His Messenger when they differ, and he has made this clear in his Sunnah.
- “Allah has bestowed upon the believers a great favor by sending them a messenger from among themselves who recites to them the verses of Allah, purifies them from evil and disbelief, and teaches them the Book and wisdom.” (Ali Imran 64) The majority of scholars have said that wisdom is something separate from the Quran, which is the Sunnah of the Prophet (pbuh). (es-Sunnah Mustafa Sibai p:50) Imam Shafi (ra); Wisdom is subordinate to the Quran here. Allah has mentioned the Book, which is the QURAN. He has also mentioned wisdom, which is the Sunnah of His Messenger. (es-Sunnah p:51) Because the Messenger of Allah says, “I was given the like of it along with the Quran” (Abu Dawud). Up to this point, we have stated that the Quran is not the only source, that this is against the spirit of the Quran itself, and the importance of the Sunnah has been explained through verses.” Nizamuddin Demir
